What is a Specialist Moving and Handling Risk Assessment?
Living at home can be hard if you suffer from a mobility or mental disability. Solihull Care Trust has assessors who can check your needs when carrying out normal day-to-day activities and then organise help, if you need it.
The assessment will be carried out by a Care Trust Moving and Handling Risk Assessor at your home.
Risk Assessors are usually qualified nurses, occupational therapists or physiotherapists who have had extra training in this area of expertise. They will visit you at home or another location if necessary, e.g. if you are physically helped by staff at a day centre, or wherever you receive day care.
We can help you by:
- advising what help and assistance you need to move more freely,
- giving advice as to how carers can safely help you physically,
- identifying what equipment you need,
- giving advice on the sustainability of your home/day care centre etc.
After your assessment, a report will be written and recorded and you and your Care Provider will receive a copy.
The aim is to keep you and you carer as independent and safe as possible.
When will any changes happen?
This may depend on how quickly recommended equipment can be provided on loan. This may mean that a temporary plan is needed if the recommendations are likely to take several weeks to put in place.
